Overview
The A.M. Soul Society are Miguel Abad (Lead Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards) Walter Joyce III (Bass, Background Vocals) and Robby Stillings (Drums, Aux Percussion and Vocals). For this project it was my job to track, mix and master their four Song EP. I also enlisted the help of graphic designer Chris Blain to create the bands logo and take some band photo's for the project. Below are pictures of the tracking session, logo, and band photos. The EP is embedded in a Soundcloud widget below for your enjoyment.
" My experience recording The A.M. Soul Society was without a doubt the highlight of my undergraduate career, and was the most spiritually and intellectually fulfilling experience I’ve ever had. I came in with a plan and vision, although not all of it was actualized, I can say I still achieved 98% of what I set out to do. To recap, I wanted to produce a 4 song EP in both physical and digital formats and promote the band with social media websites and pictures. Today The A.M. Soul Society is on Facebook.com, Soundcloud.com, Twitter.com, Youtube.com and Bandcamp.com. We have amassed a total of 98 likes on Facebook.com and over 200 Youtube.com viewings since the bands November 14 Internet debut. I also had a great experience working with Graphic Designer Chris Blain to help create the band logo, take some incredible looking band photo’s and help create the look of the CD sleeve for the physical EP. Prior to recording, I wanted to create the sounds of 1970’s, 80s and 90s Funk, Soul and R&B. Additionally, I wanted to capture the pulsating bass of James Brown, the catchy hooks of Sly and the Family Stone, the funkaliscious vocals of Parliament/Funkadelic, the tight and funky guitars of Prince, the smooth and bright vocal harmonies of Earth, Wind and Fire and punch-to-the-chest kick drum sound of The Ohio Players. Looking over at what I achieved with the EP I can say I came as close as I could to accomplishing those goals . During the writing process, which took place months before basic tracking began, I listened religiously to the production on classic Funk, Soul and R&B records and read countless articles and books on audio production relating to these particular genre’s."
